About the Wii Console

The Nintendo Wii is a video game console that was produced by Nintendo as the first console successor to the Nintendo Gamecube. It was released around the world in 2006, where it was met with wide acclaim for its unusual design and willingness to depart from the norm. The system was launched with a healthy amount of thirty titles, including Mario games on the Nintendo Wii, and was completely backwards compatible with the Gamecube titles. One of the most important steps that Nintendo took was to make their discs larger and capable of handling large amounts of game content, a mistake that contributed to the decline of the Gamecube.
When it comes to the multiplayer abilities that are offered by console systems, no system of the era could compete with the Nintendo Wii. The unusual controller, nunchuck, and motion sensor combination brought people together in their living rooms for head to head competitions for the first time in years. Combined with the multiplayer online interface, it seemed as though Nintendo had done everything in their power to improve the gamers' experience. For these reasons, the Nintendo Wii experienced an incredible launch, and has sold over 100 million systems to date.

Of course, one aspect of their success is undoubtedly contributable to the games that were released for the system. In particular, the Mario games on the Nintendo Wii helped to drive the sales of the system through the roof as many of the best games were exclusively made for the Wii. The first Mario game that fit the traditional profile was 'Super Paper Mario', which featured the ability to shift between 2D and 3D gameplay. One of the most popular Mario games on the Nintendo Wii is 'Mario Kart Wii'. With your hands on an actual wheel for the first time in the Mario Kart series and graphics that brought out better levels of detail than ever before, this game quickly became the best selling Mario game on the system. One of the other hits for Mario games on the Nintendo Wii was 'Super Mario Galaxy', a space-themed game that is widely viewed as revitalizing the series. One of the other games that brought the Wii a high level of acclaim is 'Super Smash Bros. Brawl', a powerful spin-off of the Mario franchise that featured many familiar faces from the original title, and pitted them against an impressive array of new comers. Each of these games played a significant role in defining the Nintendo Wii system.
